Sailors in the Sky: Memoir of a Navy Aircrewman in the Korean War
Sailors in the Sky: Memoir of a Navy Aircrewman in the Korean War
Sailors in the Sky is Jack Sauter’s memoir of his service as a Navy enlisted aircrewman during the Korean War. As an Aviation Electronics Technician Second Class, Sauter flew 21 early warning and antisubmarine missions from the back seat of a Douglas Skyraider with Task Force 77 off the coast of Korea.
Sauter writes about the pace of carrier life, from being launched off the flight deck to the long stretches of routine at sea. The book gives credit to the enlisted radio and radar operators who flew alongside the pilots and whose work made those missions possible. The foreword is by retired Navy Commander Edward Peary Stafford, author of The Big E: The Story of the USS Enterprise.
