Thaete flew over 189 combat sorties over North Vietnam and received numerous awards, including the Silver Star, four Distinguished Flying Crosses, two Purple Hearts, and 19 Air Medals.
The cover image shows a F-105G Flying Tiger Wild Weasel aircraft, the type of plane Thaete flew, along with a display of the medals and ribbons he earned during his 20 years of service.
Thaete was born on June 4, 1939, and passed away on June 14, 2016. He was a distinguished Top Gun- Wild Weasel pilot, flying F-100, F-105D, F-105G and F-4G Jet aircraft.
