Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany
Masters of the Air is Donald L. Miller’s history of the U.S. Eighth Air Force in World War II and the young airmen who flew its bombers against Nazi Germany. Miller follows the air campaign from its uncertain early days, when crews were learning their trade in combat, to the force that drove the Luftwaffe from the skies over Europe.
The book draws on interviews, oral histories, and American, British, and German archives. It pairs the major events of the bombing campaign with the personal stories of the men who flew, fought, and often didn’t come home. It is also the book that inspired the Apple TV+ series Masters of the Air.
